How Medigap switching works in Oregon

Oregon has a Medigap birthday rule. Once a year, around your birthday, you can switch to another Medigap plan with equal or lesser benefits without answering health questions. The exact window length and rules are set by state regulators, so the details matter. Outside that window, and outside your original six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, standard medical underwriting usually applies.

Pinnacle Insurance Advisors is licensed in Oregon. Our independent advisors compare Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, and Part D options available where you live, explain the trade-offs in plain English, and help you enroll, all at no cost to you. Most Oregon clients work with us entirely by phone.

Oregon's official fact sheet describes a window that starts 30 days before your birthday and ends 30 days after your birthday. You must keep the same plan type or choose one with lesser benefits, and the change is guaranteed regardless of your health. The rule applies to Medicare supplement policies issued after January 1, 1990.

State rules change. We confirm the current rules before any application, and Medicare.gov is the official federal resource.

New to Medigap? Start with how Medicare Supplement plans work, including the two most popular choices, Plan G and Plan N.
