How Medigap switching works in Nevada
Nevada has a Medigap birthday rule. Once a year, around your birthday, you can switch to another Medigap plan with equal or lesser benefits without answering health questions. The exact window length and rules are set by state regulators, so the details matter. Outside that window, and outside your original six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, standard medical underwriting usually applies.
Pinnacle Insurance Advisors is licensed in Nevada. Our independent advisors compare Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, and Part D options available where you live, explain the trade-offs in plain English, and help you enroll, all at no cost to you. Most Nevada clients work with us entirely by phone.
Nevada's rule took effect on January 1, 2022 under Assembly Bill 250. The open enrollment period starts on the first day of your birthday month and extends for at least 60 days, and during it you can purchase a plan with the same or lesser benefits from your existing carrier or a new carrier without underwriting. Carriers must notify policyholders of these rights 30 to 60 days before the window begins.
State rules change. We confirm the current rules before any application, and Medicare.gov is the official federal resource.
