How Medigap switching works in Maine
Maine gives Medicare beneficiaries more flexibility than most states. State rules here provide year-round or recurring opportunities to enroll in or switch Medigap coverage with limited or no medical underwriting. The specifics, which plans, which carriers, and which windows, are set by state regulators, so it pays to confirm the current rules before you make a move.
Pinnacle Insurance Advisors is licensed in Maine. Our independent advisors compare Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, and Part D options available where you live, explain the trade-offs in plain English, and help you enroll, all at no cost to you. Most Maine clients work with us entirely by phone.
Maine's rules let you change Medicare supplement plans at any time if the new plan has the same or lesser benefits, from the same or a different insurer, as long as you have never had a gap of more than 90 days in coverage that supplements Medicare since your open enrollment period. Each insurer must also designate one month every year when it accepts any applicant into Plan A on a guaranteed issue basis.
State rules change. We confirm the current rules before any application, and Medicare.gov is the official federal resource.
