How Medigap switching works in Idaho

Idaho has a Medigap birthday rule. Once a year, around your birthday, you can switch to another Medigap plan with equal or lesser benefits without answering health questions. The exact window length and rules are set by state regulators, so the details matter. Outside that window, and outside your original six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, standard medical underwriting usually applies.

Pinnacle Insurance Advisors is licensed in Idaho. Our independent advisors compare Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, and Part D options available where you live, explain the trade-offs in plain English, and help you enroll, all at no cost to you. Most Idaho clients work with us entirely by phone.

Idaho's window runs for 63 days beginning on your birthday. State guidance describes it as an annual chance to change your insurance company or plan regardless of health conditions, as long as the new policy has similar or lesser coverage. The change came out of Senate Bill 1143 and applies to changes after February 28, 2022.

State rules change. We confirm the current rules before any application, and Medicare.gov is the official federal resource.

New to Medigap? Start with how Medicare Supplement plans work, including the two most popular choices, Plan G and Plan N.
