How Medigap switching works in Delaware
Delaware has a Medigap birthday rule. Once a year, around your birthday, you can switch to another Medigap plan with equal or lesser benefits without answering health questions. The exact window length and rules are set by state regulators, so the details matter. Outside that window, and outside your original six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, standard medical underwriting usually applies.
Pinnacle Insurance Advisors is licensed in Delaware. Our independent advisors compare Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, and Part D options available where you live, explain the trade-offs in plain English, and help you enroll, all at no cost to you. Most Delaware clients work with us entirely by phone.
Delaware's rule took effect on January 1, 2026. The annual window begins 30 days before your birthday and lasts for at least 30 days after it, and during that time you can switch to a Medigap plan with the same or lesser benefits from your current carrier or a different one. Carriers must notify eligible policyholders of these rights 30 to 60 days before the birthday.
State rules change. We confirm the current rules before any application, and Medicare.gov is the official federal resource.
